ABOUT VILATHUR

Brief description

Vilathur  is one of the unique shukla yajur vedic village over 100years old situated in between THIRUVARUR and THIRUTHURAIPOONDI  towns.Nearest bus stop
Is Pangal and the railway station is Ammanur.This village is surrounded by Pangal,Kachanam,Pambuhundanallur and Ammanur.

It has an aghraharam where Brahmins live and Kudiyanatheru and harijana theru.The village has four  water  bodies namely-Ammankulam,Kuttai,Odai
Pudukulam and Thamarakulam,Before the drinking water pipe line were installed
(about 15yrs back)only drinking water source was Ammankulam water.on
the banks of Ammankulam There is Vinayagar temple and SIVAN temple  on the south,andBalasastha(Kulatheivam) on the western bank.There is a temple in the Agraharamfor LAKSHMI NARAYANA Perumal.

There are other famous temples ETTUKUDI MURUGAN,THIRUKOLLIKADU SANEESWARAN,PAYENGUDI MAHAMAYI,PUTHADI MARIAMMAN,
KACHINESWARAR,THIRUKUVALAI,THIRUKARAVASAL  etc in less
than 10kms distance from this village.

Many of the villagers migrated to cities-Chennai,Trichy,Coimbatore,Bombay since
1960s towards education, gainful employment etc as the agriculture could not  meet the daytoday  requirement of the family.There is no ground water in the village and only rain or mettur reservoir supply is the source for farming and the labour charges were exorbitant. In 60s villagers suffered a lot on account of drought,flooding,loss in agriculture , water scarcity etc which prompted the people to migrate to cities leaving the parents.

 Some of early migrants includes-Jeyrama Iyer,Nataraja Ganabadigal ,Pattamaniyar Rajarama iyer,KanakupillaiyathuMeenakshi Sundaram iyer,Subbu chithi  Ramadoss mama, Military Thyagu mama, Viswanatha iyer Sambu,kotaparnam Venkuttu mama,Papa mama Venkatramani, Kokaladi Balu,Sambu thatha Ramanathan,Subrama iyer Sri,Radhakrishnan, Anandhan  and so on.

 Today in about 50 years of coming to cities,the vilathuroons have established themselves in almost all fields and no one from this village is in poverty and the combined assets of villagers are running to several hundred crores of Rupees.
